What is Twitter and why does it keep following me around?

Twitter Explained

Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service that allows you answer the question, "What are you doing?" by sending short text messages 140 characters in length, called "tweets", to your friends, or "followers."

The short format of the tweet is a defining characteristic of the service, allowing informal collaboration and quick information sharing that provides relief from rising email and IM fatigue. Twittering is also a less gated method of communication: you can share information with people that you wouldn't normally exchange email or IM messages with, opening up your circle of contacts to an ever-growing community of like-minded people.

You can send your messages using the Twitter website directly, as a single SMS alert, or via a third-party application such as Twirl, Snitter, or the Twitterfox add-on for Firefox. (See below for links to Twitter tools and applications.)

Your tweets are displayed on your profile page, on the home page of each of your followers, and in the Twitter public timeline (unless you disable this in your account settings.)

You can receive tweets by visiting the Twitter website, IM, SMS, RSS, email or via a third-party application.

Why Twitter is Useful

Twitter has many uses for both personal and business use. It's a great way to keep in touch with your friends and quickly broadcast information about where you are and what you're up to. For example, "I'm downtown and aching for some sushi. Anyone like to join me?"

For business, Twitter can be used to broadcast your company's latest news and blog posts, interact with your customers, or to enable easy internal collaboration and group communication.

Following Other Twitter Users

Finding and adding friends to your "Twitterverse" is easy.

  • From the Twitter website: Login to your account, visit your friends' Twitter pages and click "Follow" underneath their photo. If your friend's account is public, you will immediately start seeing their tweets on your page, otherwise your friend will need to approve you before you can see their updates.
  • From your mobile phone or IM account: Send the command follow username.

See the Twitter website for a complete reference of Twitter Commands.

@Replies and Direct Messages

When you send a message with @username at the beginning, it's understood that your message is intended for that specific user, but all your followers can still see the tweet. Note that for the intended recipient to see your message on their home page, they must be following you, otherwise they will only see your message on the Replies tab.

To send a friend a private tweet, use the Direct command: d username message.

Top 6 Most Memorable Car Advertisements Of All Time

Posted by

When it comes to advertising cars, manufacturers have a lot on their plates. They’ve got to show off how cool it would be to drive one of their automobiles, showcase the practical features and benefits, all while reassuring potential customers that they won’t have to find the best lemon lawyers in California to represent them because they bought a faulty ride.

That’s why car advertisements are often some of the most inventive and incredible. In fact, you’ve probably got a few favorites kicking around inside your skull right now—that’s how memorable car ads typically are. Only a few have earned the distinction of “most memorable,” however, and today we’re going to showcase six picks that fit the bill.

Citroën

What do you do when you have a so-so automobile but you’ve still got to make it sound amazing? You make like the folks at Citroën and put a humorous spin on its mundane quality. Their 1984 ad boasted that this aging, outdated economy car was “faster than a Ferrari” (that was going at a fixed, low speed), had “as many wheels as a Rolls Royce,” and other such basics that really spoke to how “down-to-earth” this vehicle was.

Porsche

Sometimes a little bit of humble-bragging can go a long way. That must have been Porsche’s reasoning behind their “Nobody’s Perfect” advert, which showed top finishers for the 1983 Le Mans results. Porsche, of course, secured 9 out of 10 of those top spots (Sauber/BMW got ninth place). Hence the ad—nobody’s perfect (but Porsche is as close as it gets).

Audi

It pays to take the occasional risk in your advertisements, and Audi is no stranger to pushing the boundaries. In their “Can’t Stop Driving” print ads, they didn’t even need any words to get the point across, just a photo of two bank robbers waiting on their ride. That ride would be an Audi, of course, with the implication being that if they trust it to get them away from the cops, it should serve you well no matter what situation you find yourself in.

Volvo

What happens when you combine a sensible car brand like Volvo and over-the-top 90s action star Jean Claude van Damme? You get an amazing advert with said action star doing his trademark splits between two reversing Volvo trucks. What this tells us about Volvo as a brand and about their trucks specifically? That’s open for interpretation. What’s not, however, is the fact that the ad was well-received and really generated a lot of publicity for the company.

Daihatsu

Quantity over quality? That may well have been the idea behind Daihatsu’s old 1996 print advert for their Hijet van. It’s not a good-looking vehicle, they’d readily concede, but as the ad reads, it “picks up five times more women than a Lamborghini,” in the literal sense, of course. Your “mileage” probably varied once you had it out on the streets and in front of the eyes of any potential midnight rendezvous.

Mini

Once again, humor and honesty combine to make a great piece of advertising. “You don’t need a big one to be happy,” Mini exclaimed in some of their older advertisements. That’s a technically true statement, and it applies to their cars as well!

Tweeting & Texting While Driving

Posted by

Since their creation, cell phone use has continued to rise across the country as well as the world. More people are texting one another than ever before, and it’s an excellent way to stay in touch. However, there’s a downside to this boom in technology.

The dangers of texting and driving are nothing new, but typing on a phone while behind the wheel continues to be a rampant and disastrous problem. With social media sites like Twitter, the ways in which people can text and drive has also multiplied. Despite the dangers, why do so many choose to continue this life-threatening activity?

The Legal Disconnect

One of the reasons drivers continue to interact with their phones while driving is simply because so many apps are designed for just that. GPS systems and driver-side rideshare apps are part of the problem, but so are state-run traffic updates via Twitter.

Virginia and Pennsylvania are just two examples of states that provide traffic updates to their residents on Twitter, almost begging people to use their phones while on the road. While knowing what traffic lies ahead can certainly help with a commute, the ability to use these features while driving poses serious risks.

Despite the availability of systems drivers can use while behind the wheel, the same states also have laws that prohibit any form of texting and driving. This makes for an awkward legal disconnect. Drivers shouldn’t be using them, yet they are designed for drivers.

A Connected World

Another main reason is that people live their lives more connected to the internet and others than they have in the past. People use their phones 24/7 for a wide variety of reasons ranging from social media to work and just chatting. For many, it’s hard to turn that level of connectivity off.

Sure, everyone knows that a text or Tweet can wait until you arrive at your destination. However, it seems that all too many simple cannot wait to respond. In 2019, that lack of ability to be disconnected for a short period of time led to the deaths of 3,142 people according to the NHTSA.

Influencing

Connectivity takes on another form, as well. It’s not hard to find individuals recording videos of themselves while driving, and even more create Tweets or other social media posts while behind the wheel. This is equally as dangerous and life threatening.

Protecting Yourself

The first, and most important, thing you can do to protect yourself is simple leave your phone alone when you’re in the driver’s seat. Texts, calls, comments, and Tweets can all wait until the car is parked again. Resist the temptation to use your phone at stoplights, too.

Second, protecting yourself against other distracted drivers is difficult. What you can do, however, is be prepared for the aftermath. Knowing the number of a motor vehicle accident lawyer can help you get the compensation you deserve when you’re the victim of a distracted or negligent driver.

Finally, spread the word. Make sure your friends and loved ones know how dangerous distracted driving is and never let someone driving you around take part in these activities. Awareness has helped cut down on the number of people who text or Tweet behind the wheel, and it can help your loved ones as well.

Key Fob Problems – Should I Replace or Repair?

Posted by

Key Fobs are one of the best things to have ever been invented. They’ve added a tonne of convenience to owning a car! You no longer have to shuffle around to find your car keys when you want to open your car or to start it! Just keep the Key Fob nearby, and you’ll be able to get in and start the car seamlessly!

However, there is one thing that’s different about these compared to the traditional keys. Traditional keys were pretty much “forever”, as long as you didn’t let them get damaged, you didn’t need to worry about replacing or repairing them! But since key fobs are electronic, they tend to run into their own fair share of problems from time to time. When you run into these problems, you might find yourself being confused and wondering what you’re supposed to be doing! Replace or repair?

Well, in this post, we’re going to be going over the most common Key fob problems that almost everyone goes through, and what you’re supposed to do in those situations to bring your key fob back to proper working order!

#1: The key fob is lost

This is one of the most common problems people go through. Because having a key fob instead of a key is so easy, it’s also just as easy to lose the keyfob too! You can easily drop it somewhere and not be able to retrieve it! Sadly, this isn’t an instance where you can repair your key fob, because you don’t have one to repair! In this case, you will have to have it replaced with another one! This is fairly easy to do, all you need to do is call Alabaster Locksmith Services, or any recommended locksmith services in your area, and have them come and replace your key fob for you! They’ll be able to reprogram you a new one!

#2: The key fob is broken

If you’ve dropped your key fob, usually, it would be just fine as key fobs are fairly durable and don’t break very easily. However, it’s not impossible. They do tend to break! If you’ve noticed physical damage on your key fob, it’s best to have a locksmith take a look at it. If the damage isn’t extensive, they should be able to repair it for you right there! If it is, you might have to get it replaced!

#3: It’s intact, but isn’t working

If you’re pressing the buttons on your key fob, but notice that nothing’s happening, it’s possible that the battery of your keyfob has run out. The batteries in key fobs tend to last a very long time, but at some point, they’ll run out too. This happens when you’re noticing your key fob’s signal getting weaker and weaker and one day it just doesn’t work anymore. Even though it might feel like your key fob is gone for good, it isn’t! The repair is very quick and easy! The old battery just needs to be swapped out with a new one! And your key fob will function perfectly right away!

#4: A button has gone missing

Since there are a few buttons on a key fob, it’s possible that with rugged use, some of the buttons become dislodged, get damaged or simply fall out. If the damage isn’t too bad and you still have the damaged button, a locksmith should be able to repair it back to working condition. However, if the entire key fob is falling apart, it might be a good time to get a replacement! You can either get the replacement at your local locksmith’s office or order one online and have the locksmith reprogram it for you! Once it’s done, you’ll be able to use the new one just like you used the one that came with the car!

Does Print Advertising Work in Real Estate?

Posted by

If you’re a real estate agent, print advertising is an essential part of your business. It’s the perfect way to reach prospective clients and stay in touch with current customers. In this article, we’ll discuss whether print advertising works in real estate. The answer is yes!

Types of Print Ads That Work

If you want to get the attention of people who are driving by your neighborhood or walking on the street, print ads can be placed at bus stops and other high traffic areas that will catch their eye.

Postcards and flyers are great for mailing to specific neighborhoods where there might not be any open houses going on at the moment, but they would still like to know about other properties that are available nearby.

Brochures can be handed out at community fairs and other events to help advertise your properties.

Event notices are a great way of sending information about a new property or event that people might not know about yet (like an open house).

How is Print Advertising Different From Other Forms of Advertising?

Print advertising is different from other forms of advertising in the sense that print ads are often cheaper than other options and they can be more personal.

A lot of real estate agents have a limited budget, which means they might not want to spend a huge amount on an ad or promotion for one property when they have many properties available. With print advertisements, you don’t need as much money up front because you’re only paying per piece (postcards) instead of buying full-page newspaper ads. This makes print advertising ideal for someone who doesn’t know how their potential customers will react until after the fact.

Since traditional media such as newspapers is declining in readership, people tend to prefer online sources like social media websites and blogs over traditional ads in papers and magazines.

However, print advertising might still be a good choice for an inexperienced agent because it’s so personal and can show that they’re serious about their business.

The most important thing to keep in mind when deciding on the type of media you want to use is your budget and where are your potential customers looking at homes? If there isn’t much money available then traditional ads might not be worth it, but if people are more likely to search online than newspapers or magazines then print advertisements could work very well.

Print advertising does work in real estate as evidenced by many agents who have found success with postcards and flyers which require less upfront investment than other types of promotions like TV commercials.

Final Thoughts

Even though it may seem outdated to an extent, print advertising is still relevant in many ways and offers the opportunity to capture customers who otherwise might be left out by online-only advertising. While you may not want to commit to only advertising in print, switching it up from time to time can have huge benefits.
